Lake Hodges backs up behind the Lake Hodges Dam, which was constructed 1917-1919. Initially Lake Hodges was constructed to provide water to the Rancho Santa Fe community and reservoir. Today Lake Hodges is part of the San Diego Water system. The watershed that drains into Lake Hodges is 360 square miles.
