Diamond Valley Lake. Domenigoni / Diamond Valleys, California. 26 November 2009
We had just visited Idyllwild, which is on Highway 243. Palm Springs is on the other side of the mountain. As we drove further north we stopped at a Vista and I was able to capture this image. As we drove further my wife and her mother decided that this was not Parris Reservoir...and agreed that they could not remember the name.
Google to the rescue. This is Diamond Valley Lake which was completed in October 2003. Here are a few facts:
- Larger than Lake Havasu, taking four years to fill.
- This resevoir, operated by the Metropolitan Water Distrcit of Southern California, almost doubles Southern California's surface storage capacity.
- Project cost: 1.9 billion dollars.
- There is a 1.7 mile long dam on the west end and a 2 mile long dam on the east end.
- The water sources are the Colorado River and the California State Water Project.
Kayaking is an opportunity on Diamond Valley Lake, so it is probable that there will be additional Diamond Valley Lake panoramas.
Water is becoming so important!
